Sunday June 2 Crail Golfing Society,
Balcomie and Craighead Courses (36 holes)
Good morning St. Andrews Scotland! Today I wake for the first time in this new land and look forward to our full week ahead. As it’s a Sunday my first order of business today is taking a walk on the Old Course, right out my front door. the Old course is closed to play on Sundays for the public to use as they see fit, without destroying it of course. After my morning exploration, its time to golf! Our introduction to links golf is today at Crail Golfing Society, a short 15 minutes drive south from our home in St. Andrews. And what an introduction its going to be as we play 36 holes of links golf here today on the two courses at Crail. And why not? 36 holes right out of the gate should help to get all the cobwebs out from the long flight over the pond and get us acclimated with the shotmaking requirements to surely come up all week-long. Crail is the 7th oldest golf club in the world with golf having been played on these grounds since the 1850’s. We start our day on the Balcomie Links Course, re-designed by Old Tom Morris himself in 1895. After a post round lunch break in the hilltop clubhouse we tee off on the Craighead Links Course for our afternoon round. The Craighead course is the newer of the two having opened for play in 1998. Looking forward to experiencing a classic and modern designed course on the same day. A great start to the week.
